みんなが関心をもちさえすれば・・・

1984年、元音楽記者で、パンクバンドのボーカルであるボブ・ゲルドフは、ある報道に感銘を受けた。それは、アフリカでの飢餓蔓延。そして、世界の飢餓との戦いを始めた。彼が計画したのは、世界規模慈善コンサード　"ライブ・エイド"。世界の100アーティストが参加し、15億人が試聴し、たった１日で1.5億ポントを集めた。

1976年、受付嬢で、二児の母のベティー・ウィリアムズは、北アイルランドの政治紛争で、3人の子供の死を目の当たりにする。惨事の２日後、彼女は平和を求める6千の署名を集め、1万人を率いて犠牲となった子供たちの墓まで、行進した。平和の行進は、抗議者たちによって中断され、一週間後、彼女は新たな行進を計画した。その行進は３万５千人以上になり、ベティーウィリアムズは、1976年にノーベル平和賞を受賞した。

1961年ポルトガルで自由を祝って祝杯した学生２人が、７年の禁固刑に。英国弁護士の、ピーター・ベネンソンは、この出来事に衝撃を受け、学生たちを支援するために地元紙に手紙を書いた。この反響はあまりに大きなもので、活動のための委員会が組織されることになった。それはすぐに世界規模の運動となり、現在のアムネスティ・インターナショナルとなった。

1920年、南アジアに、人権平等の精神が宿る日を夢見た、南アフリカの小さな村の少年は、何年もの社会運動の末、政府反逆罪で告訴され、彼は終身刑となった。彼の人権平等の夢はいき続け、1990年、27年間の投獄の後、ネルソン・マンデラは釈放された。彼は南アフリカを初の民主主義による大統領選挙へと導いた。1900万人近くが投票によりネルソン・マンデラは選挙に勝利し、46年もの間南アフリカを分断したアパルトヘイト政権が終わった。
